Saint-Martin-de-la-Porte Town Hall
Description
Mayor: Guy RATEL
A commune in the mid-Maurienne, St Martin la Porte owes its name to the narrow passage the Roman road cut through the impressive Pas du Roc glacial lock, protected on the left bank by the Telegraphe fort.
At the foot of the Croix des Têtes massif
In addition to the main town, St Martin has three main hamlets (La Porte, La Villette and Mollardurand) and a holiday resort, "La Planchette", at an altitude of 1450 m.
The village church is part of the "Chemin du Baroque" itinerary. Herds of ibex can be seen in several places: at the summit of the Grand Perron des Encombres in summer, and at the Parc à bois of the ZA des Oeillettes in winter, while all year round they graze on the Pac du Roc. For rock-climbing enthusiasts, there's a secure bouldering area and an alpine course.
